Oly 157, Rose 149

Easily bout of the year, so far.

So close to last March's 157 - 151.

Anyone who was surprised at how close the bout was has not been paying attention to RCR.

UPDATE: DNN Recap.

Rose City v Bay Area tonight (Sat, Feb 27) at 7. Get your boutcast here or at Kay's Bar in Sellwood.

WOJ v Oly tonight at 8 p.m.

A very busy workday necessitates a very brief post, but I would indeed be remiss if I did not at least mention that the Wheels of Justice skate against the Oly Rollers tonight at 8 at the Wild West Showdown, which runs through Sunday in Bremerton, WA.

And if you're not lucky enough to be able to attend, you can watch the bout, as well as the weekend's other bouts here.

The Wheels are out for revenge against the national champs after last March's 157 - 151 loss in Oly. The Rose City women have never been more determined.

More action: Saturday, WOJ rolls against Bay Area (hi, Slaybia!) at 7 p.m., and Sunday afternoon at 4, they take on Philadelphia.

Hallelujah, Roller Derby!

RCR Draft thread - probably with many updates

(thanks to SkatieKat, Tini, and BNB on Facebook for the updates)

Rhea Derange rejoins the Betties. Always a pleasure to see her skate. One of the great derby talents in the nation. Betties also land Michelle. Nicely done!

And Madame Bumpsalot returns to the High Rollers!

Heartless Heathers take KC, jammer possibility. Dang! Shine on!

GnR get Boxcar, Knocker Brown, Attractive Nuisance, and Tish.

Well, hell, there ya go!

Thanks to everybody for the information, especially the stuff we weren't supposed to have. We'll incorporate your inevitable corrections in updates.

Congratulations draftees and returnees!

Heartless Heathers v. Breakneck Betties

The Heathers roll again tomorrow night, Saturday the 20th, at the Oaks Hangar, against last year's RCR Champion Breakneck Betties.

As Captain Mobi has said elsewhere, the 2010 Heathers are a young team, full of potential, and intent on building cohesion and power as the year unfolds. Cadavers should enjoy seeing how their team of choice has developed since January's opening scramble. And Cadavers should let those Heathers hear some cheering.

The bout is sold out, but RCR's Live Stream is plenty available, both at your computer and on the big screen at Kay's Bar, still at SE Bybee & Milwaukie.

If Saturday's match is anything like last week's bout between the High Rollers and GnR, it will be an exciting game to watch. My quick gloss on last week's bout: the Guns controlled the pack, offense, and managed penalties well in the first half while the High Rollers did the opposite. And then things completely switched around in the second half with the High Rollers showing what they were made of, deploying solid pack control and dominating most jams, down to Sully's final spectacular run.

Dr. Snark N. Stein has a similar, though by no means identical, perspective over at the GnR Blog.

And Mike Chexx shared his insights on the bout last Monday in a Rose City Roller Radio episode. Go have a listen.

Comments anyone?

Guns 'n' Rollers v. High Rollers

If you don't have tickets to tonight's sold-out bout at the Oaks Park Hangar, you can watch the live stream at the RCR website.

So great that RCR is doing this for their intraleague matches.

Via her Twitter feed, Rocket Mean informs us that the stream will be fed to a big screen at Kay's Bar.

Mike Chexx has an interesting and informative episode of Rose City Rollers Radio up, which includes a preview of tonight's bout, as well as a recap of AoA v. Miami, and some other RCR news.

Finally, last I checked there were still tickets available for next week's Heartless Heathers v. Breakneck Betties game, but I snagged three of those tickets for derby virgin friends, so if you are still among the ticketless, you had best make your move soon.
